Our Story

Love at first aloha

In 2011, Richard Hatfield and Melissa Terry met coincidentally while vacationing in Maui, though at that point they both considered San Francisco their home-away-from-home for many years. After bonding in paradise, they parted ways, with Melissa headed back to her apartment in SF and Richard off to skateboard out the rest of the sunshine Portland had to offer that summer. When the trusty Oregon rain hit, Richard decided to move back to San Francisco. The night he arrived in SF, he joined some friends at a local bar with live music, where Melissa happen to also be at, there to support her college friend's band! After this second chance encounter and the sparks still flying, the couple decided to start dating. Now six years strong, they are each others' best friends, true loves, and badass partners in life - and have decided to make it an official lifetime in paradise!

Juniper Ranch

Juniper Ranch is the Hatfield family-owned twenty one acres tucked away in the trees of Northern Oregon, about a one hour drive from Portland city center.

The Story of Juniper Ranch

Richard's parents, Jim and Lynn, moved their immediate family from England to the USA in 1993 when Richard was 4 years old. They had always dreamed of living in a log home and made their dream a reality when purchasing this property out in Colton Oregon in 2006. Building their home was a real experience for Jim and Lynn as they did a lot of the work themselves - Jim is a very talented woodworker. Richard has fond memories of going out to the property with friends and having the whole family work on the house together. The construction took a number of years, and now Richard's parents call Juniper Ranch home. Richard and Melissa love visiting the charming setting, especially around Christmas time. They have come up to visit a number of times working on projects to prepare the property with Jim and Lynn, and the whole family can't wait to welcome you!

    Join us in the woods

Given the remote location, we want to provide as many details as possible to make your stay effortless!

    Camp with us

Why leave the wedding in the woods when you don't have to?

We are strongly encouraging our guests to join the Bride & Groom camping at our custom campsite: A Tent Village we are creating on the property walking distance from the reception grounds.

Camping accommodations on property will include a designated area with a tarp for your tent and belongings. We are also hosting a boy-scout troop to serve as a "Tent Valet" for arriving guests that need their campsite setup.

We will be providing outdoor restrooms, bonfire, & other camping fun! More details on our Camping Page.

    local lodge

We are reserving rooms at local lodges in the town of Molalla less than 10 miles away.

There are only a handful and these rooms will fill up quickly so therefore will be limited to mostly family and guests with young children.

Please note the immediate area is very limited in accommodations (this is actually the only hotel within 10 miles) and being in a small town these hotels are "cozy" and come with just the basic amenities.

If you would like to request this local lodging option, please select this in your accommodation choice when prompted in your RSVP and we will contact you with more details.

    DIY your stay

For those that absolutely can't camp with us there are a few nearby towns - such as Oregon City, Canby, or Wilsonville - that are closer than Portland that might be of interest for a hotel or quaint stay at a local B&B. We linked below some options with reviews and the distance of each option from Colton.

Parking will be available onsite at the property. We will also be providing a shuttle service (details below).

Please consider the remoteness of our venue and potential for driving hazards and winding roads when arranging your transportation from the reception. You are our favorite people in the world - The safety of our guests is our highest priority!
